Despite the results of the Recreation Facilities Analysis report that we published on Safeguard Old State earlier this week, the Centre Daily Times reports today that athletic facilities will “get major upgrades.”
Since this facilities fee has been proposed, many have asked questions as to the need for it as well as for the student approval. Some may not see this as a major issue, only a hundred dollars. But at what point does it stop?
Safeguard Old State is making publicly available the report commissioned by the Penn State administration in 2005 called the “Recreation Facilities Analysis.” This is just a part of our continuing coverage of the “Student Facilities Fee” being pushed by the administration.
As I sit here at the end of my first year at Penn State I think back as to what I have done, I can say with absolute honesty that I never made a better decision than to come to Happy Valley.

The voice of the students was heard today, with the decision on the implementation of major changes to student fees, which could incorporate a ‘facilities fee’, being tabled.
Penn State Student Body President Gavin Keirans asserted the need for “accountability and transparency in all facets of Penn State life”, further declaring that this reform “needs to start with the student leadership.”
The secret “Student Activity Fee Board” (SAFB) will be voting on the new student tax, the “Student Facility Fee” this Friday. The only problem is, their meetings are not publicized, they have no website and the public doesn’t know when or where they meet. Transparent, right?
